A recent campaign generously supported by county solicitors resulted in over 50 appointments booked to draft wills in return for donations to local medical charity Cobalt.  The charity’s Make a Will Month was supported by local solicitors Willans LLP and Harrison Clark Rickerbys of Cheltenham, Langley Wellingtons LLP and Dee & Griffin of Gloucester, DF Legal LLP of Stroud and Sewell Mullings Logie LLP of Cirencester. The solicitors all donated their expertise free of charge to write or update straightforward wills and in return clients made a donation to Cobalt.

Making a will or updating an existing will is often a task that many of us put off but is one of the most important things we will ever do.  Each year, Cobalt’s Make a Will Month provides an opportunity to meet with a local solicitor who will help to prepare a will that ensures our wishes are carried out after death.

Significant life events such as moving in with a partner, buying a house, getting married, divorced or having children can be a catalyst for many people to consider making a will or updating an existing will.  However, many put off the task because it is not a nice topic to think about.  After making provision for those closest to you, leaving a gift in your will to charity, offers the potential to benefit the lives of many more people and makes what can be perceived as quite a morbid task into something altogether more pleasant and cheerful.

Peter Sharpe, Cobalt’s Chief Executive said “In the 10 years since the scheme began, over £110,000 has been raised for Cobalt. The donations we have received will be put towards supporting many patients with cancer and dementia by providing a diagnosis with state of the art imaging, investing in research and supporting nursing care.”
